Monitoring Asperger's Syndrome Behavior In Therapy

Autistic spectrum disorders lead to a variety of behaviors in children without regard to gender. If your child has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, it is important to become familiar with not only the treatment your child may need but also what Asperger's syndrome behaviors are part of the disorder and what behaviors are considered to be normal child development.

Behaviors in childhood typically encompass temper tantrums, curiosity, social interaction with other peers, as well as some complications with submitting to authority. But, when these behaviors are difficult to manage, or even absent altogether, this could be indicative of a behavior associated with Asperger's syndrome. By identifying these abnormal behaviors, you can help your child's therapist address them in therapy.

Some children, when suffering from Asperger's syndrome will make abnormal sounds when engaging in temper tantrums or not socially interacting with peers well. While some Asperger's children have complications with laryngopharyngeal reflux, it is typically a sound that your child can control and is not reflux related. It is important, therefore that you ask the therapist to address any abnormal sounds along with the abnormal behaviors.

Therapy for a child with Asperger's syndrome must be tailored to their specific behavior complications. As a parent, it is important to document all abnormal behavior, even if you aren't sure what behavior is considered normal for child development. By keeping a behavior journal, you can discuss those activities with the therapist more clearly and, ultimately, this will help to overcome your child's Asperger's syndrome symptoms.

Autistic spectrum complications are lead to a variety of behaviors in children - some good and some bad. If your child seems to have more maladaptive behavior, that is even considered to be anti-social, be sure to monitor those behaviors, keep a behavior journal, and discuss them with your child's therapist. In doing so, you are giving your child a better opportunity at benefiting from each therapy session.
