Cat Behavior And Training
Cat Behavior Secrets - Train Your Cat And End Bad Behavior
Don't Let Your Cat Destroy Your Furniture Or Carpet
Tired of your pet making mincemeat out of your couch and curtains? Do you discourage your friends from coming over because you know they'll be overcome with the smell of cat pee every time they walk into your house?
Has your cat decided that cat poop is a good houseplant fertilizer? Does your loving little pet suddenly turn into a biting, scratching psycho, tearing into your flesh with no warning?
If you answered yes to even one of these questions, you should read further.
So What Do The Experts Say?
There are so many different opinions on how to deal with bad cat behavior. There are those who think it's impossible to "train" a cat. How many times have you heard this - "Cats aren't as smart as dogs and they can't be trained." And to be quite honest, I was beginning to believe just that.
But my little cat monster has made significant improvements just in the last week after making just a few simple changes outlined in a book I stumbled across -- Cat Behavior Secrets Revealed.
Cat Behavior Secrets Revealed is the brainchild of Liz Barton (also called the Cat Wrangler) -- a cat enthusiast who has studied more than 100 books and articles about cat behavior, interviewed dozens of vets, and for over four years now has been the "go to" person for anyone who is battling bad cat behavior.
Easy To Follow, Step By Step Guide:
As I began reading Cat Behavior Secrets Revealed, I was immediately intrigued. The book is very well written and provides simple, step-by-step instructions to help you regain control of your house.

Should I give up my cat... What do I do w/ him?
This cat was hit by a car in front of my house last March. I ran out, took him in, went to the vet, etc... He was OK, was treated for infections, neutered, and everything else.
For the next few months I searched for its owner- Lost cat posters, Craigslist, checking classified, but no one came forward. We only have one cat on our lease, and we were not looking for a second pet (although we can get a second if we ask Landlord).
So now it has been 7 months, and this cat is crazy and out of control. He bites, scratches, tears up the carpets, breaks things, and has shredded our leather furniture. He is not snuggly, doesn't ever want to be touched, and attacks people. I have a 4 inch raised scar on my leg from an attack from 6 months ago.
He is also a scavenger- he begs for food during human meals like a dog, and is very audacious- He will try to eat right off our plates, and even tries to get into trash cans!! This cat poops in the litter box without burying it (a way to intimidate my cat), and has wiped his but on my carpet 3 times!!
He constantly tries to climb into the oven, dishwasher and clothes dryer.
He is nutz.
The WORST is that he attacks my beloved, senior cat who we have had for 10 years. My can has shown signs of depression and anxiety since we took in the stray. This new cat attacks him, jumps on his back, bites his neck, claws him, chases him and intimidates him at the food bowl/won't let him eat or drink.
The little cat sleeps in the office by himself at night so my husband, myself and our dear old cat can have some respite, and some food.
I have spent a couple hundred dollars on toys and 'cat entertainment' items to try to please this new cat. I've read cat behavior and training literature but they don't help. I have tried Benedryl and Dramamine to calm him- neither seemed to have any effect at all!
Problem is is so cute- a purebread Lilac Pointed Ragdoll.
My husband is not sure he wants to get rid of him, but I am fed up at this point. He is affecting our quality of life. We have so many scratch scars. The work for cleaning up after 2 cat boxes is draining. He makes a mess at his litter box, eats like a pig and his poop smells 10x worse than my cat's poop.
I don't want to take him to a shelter where he'll be euthanized. We have spent over $600 on medical needs and toys, and an untold amount on his food & litter. What should I do with him?
He appears 'little' because my cat is over 20 pounds and over a meter long head to tail- most cats look 'little' next to my senior cat. The vet thinks he is about one year old- that's little. In the last 8 months he has gained an additional 2 pounds, his hair has grown longer & thicker, and he continues to grow. He was 9 pounds when we took him in. Here are some pics of him:

I read that hitting the cat doens't work well- because cats tend not to respond to punishment the same way dogs do. I've tired a squirt bottle of water, and blowing air in his face if he bites.
If he's not a ragdoll, can anyone guess a breed?
In LA, the ASPCA reports that 20% of pets they receive and euthanize are purebred. Also the value of a ragdoll is not of consequence...its is the $600 medical bills, the time & energy we have paid into a cat that we did not ask for that is the 'value'.
Yes of course we tested for feline HIV. That was an additional $100.

Cat behavior.and training..?
So my 2 yr old female cat has just begun this fascination with water. It started with her flipping her water bowl and running to the toliet everytime she heard it flushed. And even trying to drink out of thw bathtub while im in it. Well i did my homework and found out cats like running water and its their instinct telling them running water is fresh. So i went out and bought her a damn $40 fountain. Which worked ok for awhile. Until she discovered the new game of knocking over drinks. Doesnt matter where they are she will get to them and spill them. I tried the spray bottle that doesnt work she just does it when i turn my back. I started drinking out of bottle which really sucks this cat is running my life. Its so bad i had company over for a glass of wine and when we go to the kitchen for 5 mins she knocks it over. Thank god she didnt try to drink it!! I cant lock her in a different area bc i live in a large studio apt. Unless i look her in the bathroom. She is a very playful cat. She has tons of toys, cat tree, scratching post gets plenty of love and attention. (up until this moment of fustration im about to explain) i swear it is just a game she just loves to play and she knows she is running the house and taunting me.
Well the other day i was having such a horrible day only to come home to her tricks. She had the guts to do it right in front of my face this time. So out of fustration i scooped her up by the scruff and took her to the bathtub faucet and held her under the water for a good 10 seconds. After doing this i felt horrible like i had just abused my cat for doing this and even thought maybe i just need to find her a better home if im going to let this natural cat curiosity fusturate me to this point...
Well an hour later she came out purring and jumping on my lap her normal self she wasnt fearful of me as i feared she might be. And 3 days have gone by spill free. She seems to know whos boss now.
Do you think this was an effective training method?
