Cat Behavior Modification - What You Need To Know
If you are interested in cat behavior modification, then it is crucial that you make an effort change the cat's behavior in the early years. As the cat grows older, the harder it becomes to change any unwanted behavior. Here are a couple of tips to follow to achieve cat behavior modification.Understanding Your Feline PetPrior to doing any kind of behavior modification, you ought to have a good understating of what is a normal and abnormal reaction from your cat. Some people consider actions of a cat as bad behavior but in fact it is just a normal behavior. For instance, your cat scratching your furniture, it may seem that he or she is displaying bad behavior, but it could be simply that your cat's claws are growing. Providing a scratch tower would solve such problem. You can also deter you cat from scratching any surface by putting a sticky tape on it. Cats don't like it very much if they claws gets sticky. Taping aluminum foil on the spot also works, as cats typically don't like the sound of an aluminum foil.Visit A VeterinarianThe moment that you notice any odd or irregular behavior from your cat, it is advisable that you visit a veterinarian just to see that its not related to any medical problem. There are plethoras of medical problem that will result into a form of bad behavior from your cat. One good example is when your cat stops making use of the litter box. It could be a sign that your cat is having urinary tract infection, or another possible cause of such problem is that your cat is maybe getting old, and your cat is having a hard time using the litter box. These kinds of problems are easy to solve, but you still need to consult the veterinarian to help you on dealing with your cat's behavioral problems.Separate Your Cat From The Spot Associated With Bad BehaviorOne of the best advice that you can employ is when your cat is behaving badly, is to separate him or her from the spot that where your cat is doing his or her bad behavior. You could also put items that your cat dislikes in the areas where your cat is misbehaving. For example, cats usually don't like how oranges smell, so you can place oranges in undesired areas where your cat is peeing. This can be applied to any bad behavior, and no restricted only to peeing.Avoid Violent Disciplinary Action If At All PossibleIt is highly advisable that you employ non-violent methods with regards to disciplining your cat. You can use praise system instead since cats typically loves being praised. For most cases positive reinforcement will do trick in regards to cat behavior modification. However, there are rare instances that a slight violent method may be needed. These are rare instances, and only done for bad behaviors that have been ingrained in your cats behavior for years. Even then, you still need to do more positive reinforcement than slight violent methods.

Can someone who has good knowledge of Cat behavior help?
Almost 6 years ago I rescued an outdoor cat...at 1st he was so wild I almost couldn't keep him because of his scratching my wife and I but eventually he melded into our family of 3 other cats...he then became my favorite, becoming a mushball/lapcat...then about 3 months ago he became "skittery" and hid from us, under the bed/tables/couch...he would eat and then disappear and there was no way to coax him out....we brought him to the vet who discovered a thyroid tumer....we then brought him to have that radiated and when he came home, everything was good again....until last week...the hiding and "skittery" behavior is back...now, these two things may NOT be related, I understand that...but I worry about him and miss him being out and about with all of us....has ANYONE seen this type of behavior before, or can you offer a suggestion...in advance, thanks!

Cat rescuers...Cat behavior help anyone?
I rescued 2 litters a few days ago. 2 babies are between 3-4 wks old. The other litter of 3 are only 7-10 days old. Both are from a feral cat colony. Okay, here's the deal. I took all to the vet yesterday, vet tech tells me that I will have a terrible time properly socializing the smaller litter. They are often very aggressive, undesirable pets since they had no discipline from mom. I need to learn mama cat discipline techniques!! This is not my first time socializing feral babies but this is the youngest I have ever taken. HELP!! I want to be a good cat mom!

Okay so my cat is about 5 yrs old, i got her when she was just old enough to be away from her mother...A while back she would pee in laundry baskets, when we had a new baby in the house, that isnt the case this time, she has done it five times in the past three days, also she is more jumpy, she is an indoor cat and always has been, she has never hissed at me before and she just did a couple a minutes ago when i called her to come out of under the bed and when she did i was kneeling on the floor (i guess i scared her) she moved back instead of continuing coming out and she hissed at me but than she came out and rubbed her head against me...any clue why she is acting like this?
she came out when i said her name, i didnt pester her, and i know that cats like to be left alone, but she being more jumpy than usual and she hissed at me...which she has never done.

Odd Cat Behavior Help!
Okay my daughter has this one year old male cat named Mil-oh. He is very attached to Calista. When ever she is around a guy that's not related to her Mil-oh will hiss and scratch at the boy. He is constantly by her, he doesn't like any male that isn't her relative. When Calista is talking on the phone Mil-oh will jump up onto her lap and pur loudly even if she isn't touching him. He will paw at the phone just so she will acknowledge him. He constantly is snuggling his head into her chest or even trying to snuggle his head in between her legs. Calista will call him a pervert and that causes Mil-oh to meow softly and pur louder. What's up with this cat, he doesn't like guys and he is constantly by Calista.
Also whenever Calista picks him up he puts his paws over her shoulders, so it looks like hes hugging her. it's extremely odd. He also licks her face and nips on her ear.
