Cat Diseases
The Most Common Cat Diseases
Cats get ill even if they are taken care of very well. The Cat Diseases range from kitty cold to fatal diseases. Some of the most common Cat Diseases are discussed under:
Upper respiratory infection is very common among the cats and is also known as kitty cold by their owners. The symptoms are very similar to the cold of the humans, accompanied by sneezing and running nose. Even though it seems to be alike, the infections caused in the cats are very different as one species get infected by the other species. But, it can be contagious among the cats. The upper respiratory tract infection can lead to loss of appetite and can affect them from days to weeks. The cats must be made to eat, which can be encouraged by warming their foods and applying a warm, moist cloth to keep the cat's nose and eyes free from any kind of discharge. If the loss of appetite persists and if the discharge becomes yellowish green in color and thicker, they have to be taken to the veterinarian immediately as it will be a serious problem.
Feline Chlamydia is a kind of bacteria which affects the cats, usually infesting the eye, causing conjunctivitis. The symptoms of feline Chlamydia are anorexia, cough, breathing problem, pneumonia, fever, sneezing, running nose, watery eyes etc. It is best treated with the help of antibiotics. This is also one of the common Cat Diseases.
Panleukopenia is a cat disease that makes the cat's white blood cell count to drop drastically. As white blood cells are very important for the cat's immunity, this condition makes the cats susceptible to many deadly infections. This virus is transmitted through body secretions, mainly via feces and can be carried by water or shoes.
Feline leukemia virus can cause many cat diseases. One among them is leukemia otherwise known as the cancer of the white blood cells. There is no known treatment for this disease and might lead to death after months or years after the incidence of this disease. It is usually transmitted during cat fights. Other reasons for transmission may be through foods shared among them, through water bowls, from mother to the kittens in the womb etc.
Parasites are organisms which feed on other living being for their own survival. Cats are affected by parasites, which feed on their blood. External parasites such as ear mites, fleas etc can be seen on the skin or fur of the cats and in their ears. Internal parasites detection may be bit difficult, but can be known through sighting small rice like debris lingering to the cat's anus or in the cat's bedding. Some of the internal parasites are ring worms, hook worms, tape worms etc.
Coccidia is a microscopic parasite which lives in the lining cells of the intestines. The symptom associated with this parasite is diarrhea which if left untreated, can lead to dehydration and even death. Ear mites usually take up residence in the cat's ear canals causing severe itching.

cat first ever checkup - scared !!!?
my almost 3 year old kitty (was stray)
is getting her first ever checkup and vaccines tomorrow
when i adopted her she was so quiet and thin,i took her to the vet she had a bad case of womb infection and she had to get spayed, she got spayed and has been acting great since then
she gained weight, sooo playful and purrs to me all the time
but i keep googling cat diseases and keep worrying that the vet will discover something serious in her
for example when i play with my kitty and she is running like crazy she will sit and make a big sign9sound of air coming out of her nose/mouth ?) does that mean she have a lung problem ?? heart failure !!!
maybe the vet will run test and dicover she have feline lukemia in a late stage !!!!!
4 months ago he saw her (not a full checkup but checked her) he did not mention anything to me
my kitty also have a skin problems,he back keeps moving in a weird way and today i discovered a bloody patch (hairless) on her back [main reason why we are going tomorrow
so do you think there is a chance (big or small) that my kitty wont have something serious ??

What is this lethal cat disease called?
My friend's vet said her cat might have an incurable, fatal disease, but all my friend remembers is that it begins with an 'S'. Her vet said that it's common in adult female cats, who inevitably pass it on to their kittens. I believe that my kitten and her kitten are siblings, and their symptoms are the same, so I'm worried that my kitten might also have it. I want to do research on the disease, but obviously I can't if my friend can't remember the name.
The symptoms include, according to her vet, recurrent eye infections despite treatment, lethargy/lack of energy, and a skinny/bony body. The vet said that there is no cure, and the cat will eventually deteriorate and die. My kitten is about 10 weeks old, but he's kind of bony and doesn't look that much bigger than he was when I brought him home at 6 weeks as a stray. He eats just fine, and he doesn't have any vomiting or diarrhea, but all he wants to do when I'm home is lay on my lap. He ignores his toys, and I've been treating a recurrent eye infection since the day I got him. I won't be able to take him to the vet again for another day or two, so I thought I'd see if anyone knew the name of the disease the vet described.

I have a indoor/outdoor cat who's been completely Vac with all his shots and been tested for all the cat disease stuff... All negative. Now he is sneezing about 20 times a day (not exaggerated). Could it be a cold? How can I help him here at home?

Kitten died.........?
a kitten was found homeless and all alone by someone and given to me 1 day after they found it. i would say it was about 5 or 6 weeks old. it seemed healthy, he purred, followed me etc. i only had him for a day then he died.
the night i got him he took 3 big bites of food and was full. drank no water. the next morning he drank water. an hour later....he pooped blackish tar diahrea all over the bathroom and then he went limp and weak and could barely lift his head. i gave him a cpl drops of electrolytes and took him to the vet. they said he looked like he was trying to die : ( and that putting him through blood transfusions etc would be too hard on him. so they put him down, he was barely breathing.
what do you think happened? did he have a cat disease.....was he so far starved before i got him that any food in his system just made him sick? i know it could be anything......i feel so bad

Is it a cat disease ? ? ?
I found this cat outside and ive been feeding it for about 8 months. I have done this before and eventually adopted one i found as a stray. I have been very careful like after i pet him, i wash my hands very thoroughly. i have heard were if your cat has "eye boogers" it may have a disease... is this true. the cat was left by a renter across the street about 4 years ago. but the cat was never brave enough to come up to me so i could feed him. but now he is and i pet him every day. but ive noticed that he has eye boogers and im afraid he might have a disease...... and i cant take him to the vet because he would never trust me again if i forced him into a crate........ what should i do, and how do i tell if he has a disease??????
